Course Title: Reading Comprehension Holiday Course

Dates: 6 days

Timing: 2 hours

Course Content: The aim of this course is to equip students with the essential
comprehension skills so that they will stride through the secondary classes with confidence.

1. Identify author’s purpose, main ideas/key words, point of view and contextual clues.
2. Discern & Infer – cause & effect, compare and contrast, facts and opinion.
3. Literary elements – idioms, figurative language, personification, similes, metaphors, alliterations, onomatopoeia, hyperbole etc.
4. Vocabulary –synonyms and antonyms.
5. Sequencing, summarizing and answering in your own words.

Appropriate for: Grade VI,VII and VIII.
